Packaging is a global market segment responsible for the freshness, safety and presentability of goods for businesses and consumers. That is why for many years the UPAKEXPO exposition has been gathering leading market players, manufacturers, distributors, industry experts, specialists of narrow and broad profiles and representatives of related industries to present technological and product innovations, discuss trends and development forecasts. The exhibition is held in alliance with RUPLACTICA, the main business platform in the Polymer industry.
The alliance of the two exhibitions is absolutely not accidental: according to leading Russian manufacturers of polymer raw materials, the annual consumption of polymers in packaging reaches about 3.3 mlns tonnes. According to their forecasts, in 2024 the indicator is expected to grow by another 3-4%.
The main business consumers are food and beverage production, with the product groups “milk” and “confectionery” standing out separately. Rosstat for the first 7 months of 2024 shows: food production grew by 4.7%, and beverages by 10.5%. If you look at the production of milk, its growth was 4.6%, and confectionery - 6.2%.
However, the Food industry does not exhaust the need for packaging materials. The Furniture market is showing unprecedented growth, household appliances are increasing production, and freight transportation is also growing - all this requires various types of containers and packaging. One of the key economic phenomena of the 2020s is the rapid growth of e-Commerce, whose turnover increased by 39% in the first quarter of 2024 alone.
Packaging has long and firmly remained the leading partner of the Polymer industry, and even in the new conditions for regulating its production and disposal, which provide for an Extended Producer Responsibility mechanism, it will remain a leader in plastic consumption, and therefore a driver of the raw materials market, technologies and equipment. The list of raw materials for packaging is extensive - PET for disposable bottles and jars, HDPE for dairy products and cosmetics, LDPE for packaging bags, polypropylene for all kinds of containers, polystyrene for disposable tableware, pallets and containers. Many suppliers of finished packaging products present their developments – technologies and production modules – at UPAKEXPO, while nearby – at RUPLASTICA – they present machinery and equipment, raw materials and auxiliary materials, as well as services for the polymer industry.
